Corinthians have in its social club facilities a small stadium - Alfredo Schurig (the president who was a enterpreneur and president of Corinthians at the time). The stadium opened in 1928, and held 28.000 fans in its biggest crowded game. Last game in the stadium was in 2002, with a victory.
Rivals always made jokes about Corinthians for 2 main reasons:
1- Never won an internations championship = this joke ended in 2012, with Libertadores title UNDEFEAT.
2- Does not have an stadium (the current one does not have appropriate structure). This joke still applies, and it has a date to end - December, 2013, when the new stadium will be innaugurated. The Corinthians Arena will also hold the opening game of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Other World Cup games will also be playes in the stadium.
